Day 8: Bush Tucker tour & grub!

Today was a day of environmental and gastronomic adventures! Early in the morning, we drove down to Margaret River to meet Kris, our Aussie river captain, and another adventure seeking couple. On the drive down, i made James promise that he would eat everything we were presented with on this tour. No matter how gross or how unappetizing - we would eat them all together! :) poor James... Hahaha.

The weather was a bit gloomy but to our luck the rain held off. So, off we went...

Bush tucker means ... Food from the backwoods ...

This is Kris, our guide. They don't get much more Aussie than Kris.

We learned about lots of wild things... Unfortunately, I didn't catch all the names and such, but here is a vague recount of what I do remember. These are Tea Tree leaves - used frequently for aromatherapy.

These thingamajiggers were used to brew beer at some point in history...

Shark Teeth Bottle Bush. Watch out!

Kris, Bear Grylls style, taught us what plants we could eat...

And what to look out for! Humungo red ants!

And then we parked our canoe...

Hiked up to a cave...

(Note: James would like me to state here that there was water in the cave - right - which is why he is wearing his life jacket ... In a cave)

(Naoko / Hans - These caves weren't anything compared to the massive caves we've seen in the past, but you would have appreciated them anyway. Apparently, settlers from a ship wreck lived in these caves for a year.)

And then we had lunch! Kangaroo, emu, crocodile, wild turkey, berries, and...

Witchity Grub!!!!!

Yeah, that's right! We ate pieces of that!!!!!! O.M.G. Yes, we did. I got it on film, but unfortunately I can't upload it via my iPad. Haha. But when I do I'll let you know bc it was hilarious. I almost threw up on James. Hahaha. My nickname for the rest of the tour was Witchity Grub Girl bc I convinced everyone on the tour eat it!

Haha. James - You'll thank me one day!
